The Flames Lose Home Against the Cougars
The Flames failed to get their heads in the game in the first quarter which left them trailing behind by seven points (12-19). Coach Zitouni made some adjustments and this, together with a quick “motivational speech”, did the trick: By halftime, the Flames reduced the difference to 3 points (31-34). The Flames continued to strengthen their man-to-man defense and, though they struggled to break the Cougars’ zone defense in attack, they managed to keep up momentum, converted more opportunities, and tied at 45 by the end of the third quarter. However, the Flames, who for the first time this season had a shortage of players on the bench, could not keep up with the rapid pace the Cougars set from tip-off: Lacking the energy that more subs would have injected into their game, the Flames suffered from a number of unforced turnovers and gave away a few easy buckets, losing the game by 6 points (59-65).
The Cougars were consistent in their game. They were fair winners.
MVP of the Game: Maria – who else?! With her awesome fast drives to the basket and her free throws, Maria scored a total of 29 points!
Special Mention(s) of the Game: Rachida who both coached (for the first time) AND played for the Flames – not an easy task as some us know! | Zsuzsanna who is quickly becoming an indispensable asset of the team! She was the second highest scorer (16 points) and got countless offensive rebounds.
