The Flames Beat the Panthers
With a full bench, coach Zitouni had a tough job deciding on a starting five and substitutions throughout the match, but everyone was encouraged to give their all on court then take a rest when needed – which ensured consistent effort throughout the match and successful offensive team play.
The Flames started well in the first quarter but it looked like the young opposition had good legs and would not give in easily. It truly was a great team effort to continue winning every quarter, doing particularly well in the second and third quarters, when the Flames struggled in the past to keep up the momentum.
It was fantastic to see ten out of twelve players getting on the scoresheet. The outstanding performance of the match however goes to Maria who nearly outscored the rest of the Flames put together with a very impressive 30 points along with some great defensive pressure at the other end of the court. Every team member stepped up their defense without incurring many fouls and keeping the oppositions’ highest scorers to 9 points.
The Flames’ concentration paid off with several steals and fast breaks allowing them to add some quick points to their growing total.
Excellent support from the bench and supporters reinforced the team spirit and made the win even sweeter for all involved. We now look forward to the semi-final match of the Cup and, dare we dream, beyond!

MVP of the Game: MARIA, of course! At this rate, we'll have to retire Maria's jersey number!
